Hannan Buhari, one of the daughters of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has shared an emotional account of his final moments before passing away in a London clinic on Sunday.
In a heartfelt social media post, Hannan revealed that she gave her father the last kiss shortly before he died. The late president had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness at the time of his death.
Buhari was buried on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, according to Islamic rites. His passing has continued to draw reactions and tributes from political leaders, family members, and Nigerians across the country.
Sharing a photo of a handshake with her father, Hannan described the deep bond they shared and what she learnt from him.
“The pain of your absence is immense, but I’m finding strength in the love you gave me,” she wrote. “You’re the reason I know what unconditional love feels like. I thank Allah for giving me the opportunity to give you the final kiss. Alhamdulillah.”
Hannan, a creative artist and photographer, has often spoken fondly about her father’s influence in her life, both publicly and privately.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari served two terms in office from 2015 to 2023. He was 82 at the time of his passing.
