The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani, has officially left the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Her media aide, Maulud Usman, confirmed the news on Sunday. He said Binani arrived in Yola on Saturday evening and privately informed close family members and friends about her decision to switch parties.
Although reports of her defection had already begun trending on social media early Sunday, there was no formal public announcement until later in the day.
According to Usman, the declaration was done quietly without media presence. However, he said Binani would soon return to Yola to formally identify with the ADC in a more public event.
Binani, who was senator for Adamawa Central during the 2023 elections, narrowly lost the governorship race to incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Her move to the ADC is expected to reshape the political landscape in Adamawa ahead of the next general elections.
