The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has stated that its ongoing coalition efforts are not focused on any individual, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi. Instead, the party says it is working to form a broad alliance that can offer real change to Nigerians.
Speaking in an interview, Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesperson of the ADC, said the goal of the coalition is to build a stronger political force that can challenge the status quo, not to promote the ambition of any single politician.
“The coalition has nothing to do with either Peter Obi or Atiku. They are just members like many others. The focus is not on them,” Abdullahi said. “Everyone has the right to pursue their ambitions, but that’s not what this is about.”
He noted that while social media users often discuss presidential candidates, the coalition itself has not taken any position and is not backing any particular person at this stage.
“We are not selecting anyone now. When the time comes, we will follow a democratic process. The party belongs to its members, not to one individual,” he added.
According to Abdullahi, the ADC is currently focused on expanding its reach across Nigeria, especially in the North, where many former members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have joined the coalition due to dissatisfaction with the government.
“Many political leaders from the North who feel abandoned by APC are now with us,” he said. “The North is tired of how it has been treated under this government. ADC offers a real alternative.”
He described the ruling APC as a party that has brought suffering to Nigerians and urged citizens to support ADC’s efforts to bring change.
“The ruling party is punishing the people. Nigerians don’t want four more years of hardship. We believe ADC can free the country from that suffering,” Abdullahi concluded.
The ADC, formed in 2005, is one of Nigeria’s smaller political parties but has gained attention in recent years through alliances and coalitions aimed at challenging the two main parties — APC and PDP.
