Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has confessed that he sometimes regrets being so hardworking, even though he comes from a wealthy family.
Speaking during an interview with music executive Bankulli after a sold-out show in Toronto, Canada, Davido said he feels drained mentally by the demands of his work. Yet, he remains committed to his music because he loves what he does.
“I regret to myself for being hardworking. The stress and mental strain that goes into this kind of work — especially with a lot of odds against me is draining,” he said. “But I have to do it. It’s not for the money. I already have billions of dollars waiting for me. Even if I don’t work again in my life, I’m set. But I work because I love my job and my fans.”
Davido is the son of Nigerian billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, and his nickname, “Omo Baba Olowo,” reflects his privileged background.
Despite his wealth, Davido insists that his success is driven by passion and dedication to music and his fans, rather than financial need.
The interview comes shortly after his sold‑out performance at Scotiabank Arena, where fans celebrated his energy, hit songs, and genuine connection with the audience.
Davido’s remarks shed light on the pressures artists face, even when they do not have financial worries, and underline the emotional cost of fame and success.
