Military Recovers Explosives, Foils Terrorist Ambush in Borno

    Share

Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an attempt by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists to plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the Marte–Dikwa road in Borno State.

Military sources said the operation, which is part of ongoing efforts to limit terrorist movement in the North East, happened at about 2:01 a.m. on Tuesday.

The troops, who had laid an ambush along the route, spotted a group of insurgents trying to place explosives on a bridge. The soldiers immediately opened fire, forcing the terrorists to flee and abandon their explosives and tools.

Two IEDs were recovered from the scene. There were no casualties among the soldiers during the encounter.

The successful operation is another step in the military’s effort to maintain control and improve safety in Borno, a state that has long been affected by insurgency.
