Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has explained that the emerging opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is focused on protecting Nigeria’s democracy, not the political ambitions of any individual.
Speaking on recent speculations surrounding the alliance, Atiku said the coalition is not a platform for power struggles among political figures like himself, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, or Nasir El-Rufai, but rather a united effort to safeguard democratic values in the country.
He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of undermining the electoral process and moving the country toward authoritarian rule.
“This is not an anti-Tinubu project; it is a pro-Nigeria movement,” Atiku said. “Nigerians must be the ultimate beneficiaries of this effort.”
The former PDP presidential candidate insisted that the primary goal of the coalition is to restore integrity, fairness, and transparency to Nigeria’s political system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amid talks of internal competition for the coalition’s presidential ticket, Atiku urged the public to focus on the broader mission of rescuing Nigeria’s democracy rather than on individual ambitions.
