Chelsea Football Club announced on Tuesday morning that Filipe Coelho has left his role as the club’s Under-21 head coach. Coelho will join French Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg as their new assistant head coach.

The Premier League side revealed the move through an official statement on their website. Chelsea also confirmed that Calum McFarlane, who recently arrived from Southampton, will take over as the new Under-21 head coach. McFarlane will be supported by former Chelsea Academy players Andy Ross and James Simmonds in his new role.

Coelho, 40, led Chelsea’s young team to a third-place finish in the Premier League 2 last season. He had previously enjoyed success as Under-23s head coach at Portuguese club Estoril before joining Chelsea.

The club hopes McFarlane will continue the strong development of their young players as they prepare for the upcoming season.
