A special police team in Delta State has arrested a wanted kidnapper, Chiadiji Collins, also known as “Smooth,” who has been on the command’s watchlist for multiple kidnapping cases around Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, and Asaba areas.
According to a statement by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the arrest was made on July 27, 2025, around 1:20 a.m. by the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson. The operation, carried out alongside the command’s X-Squad and Buffalo Patrol Teams, followed credible intelligence about the activities of suspected kidnappers.
Police stormed the suspect’s hideout along Ibusa Road and arrested him. He later led the team to his house in Ewulu community, Aniocha South Local Government Area, where a search uncovered one AK-47 rifle and 40 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition.
Further investigation led to the arrest of another gang member, Ezechie Andrew, in the same community. Police recovered two pump-action guns and two live cartridges from his possession.
The suspects are believed to be involved in several kidnapping operations across Ogwashi-Uku, Issele-Uku, and other areas of Delta State. Both are currently in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate operation, police arrested three suspected cultists in Abraka. On July 30, 2025, around 6:30 a.m., operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) raided a criminal hideout at Big Gate, Campus III, Abraka.
Three suspects — Benjamin Okwufulueze (21), Augustine Ifeanyi (22), and Iruma Japheth (27) — were arrested. Officers recovered a locally made Beretta pistol, four rounds of live ammunition, a cap with Eiye confraternity symbols, and a battle axe. The suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Eiye cult group.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the successful operations and urged parents to warn their children against joining cults and engaging in criminal acts.
He also encouraged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to security agencies to help maintain peace and safety in the state.
