The University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) has dismissed a viral video claiming a python was killed on campus, calling the report false and misleading.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Sammy Kpenu, Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations, described the video as a fabrication by mischief makers aiming to damage the university’s reputation.
Uniport assured the public that its campuses remain safe, secure, and conducive for learning, research, and other activities.
The university condemned the spread of misinformation, warning that such false reports are attempts by some individuals to gain cheap popularity and online attention.
Authorities at Uniport urged the public to ignore and avoid sharing the fake news. They also said steps have been taken to monitor and report those spreading false information to the relevant security agencies.
Uniport reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a peaceful and safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
