Galatasaray has made history by signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen on a permanent deal from Italian champions Napoli, becoming the most expensive transfer in Turkish football.
The club triggered Osimhen’s €75 million release clause this summer to secure the services of the 25-year-old forward, who has quickly become a fan favourite.
Speaking about the record-breaking transfer, Galatasaray vice-president Abdullah Kavukcu said the move was driven by Osimhen’s love for the club and the strong support from fans.
“We started talking with our president in January, and then with Victor himself. He told us he wanted to stay permanently at Galatasaray,” Kavukcu said.
The vice-president added that Osimhen made sacrifices to remain at the club, showing great affection for Galatasaray. “He gave up a lot to stay. Our fans created a wonderful atmosphere that made him want to remain here,” Kavukcu explained.
Kavukcu also highlighted that the club did not sell any players to fund the transfer and sees this signing as a step towards making Galatasaray a global football brand.
Osimhen’s arrival is expected to boost Galatasaray’s chances in both the Turkish league and European competitions, as well as further strengthen their growing fan base.
