Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a strong warning about Nigeria’s future, saying the country may not survive if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) wins the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a grassroots mobilisation rally in Sokoto on Saturday, August 2, El-Rufai declared his full support for the opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He vowed to campaign across the country to unseat the APC, which he described as “incompetent.”
“We are in Sokoto to begin the process of mobilising Nigerians against the APC government anywhere and the federal government in Abuja,” El-Rufai said.
The former APC chieftain stressed that he is no longer in politics for personal gain but to serve the country and speak out when things go wrong.
“When the government does not serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to come out and condemn it and take steps to reverse the situation,” he said. “If this party continues beyond 2027, what remains of Nigeria’s social fabric may be destroyed. This is a fight for our lives.”
El-Rufai, once a key figure in forming the APC, left the party in March 2025 after the Senate rejected his ministerial nomination, reportedly due to security concerns. He briefly joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), but was expelled amid allegations of forgery and banned for 30 years.
Now a top voice in the ADC, El-Rufai has joined forces with other political figures to challenge the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Sokoto event marks the beginning of what he described as a national movement to protect Nigeria’s future.
