Man in Military Uniform Steals Okada After POS Trick in Lagos

    Share

A commercial motorcyclist identified simply as Henry has recounted how a man dressed in military uniform stole his motorcycle after deceiving him during a trip around Lagos.

According to Henry, the suspect hired him for a full day ride around town, promising to pay ₦8,000 for the service. The journey started smoothly but took a turn late at night around 10 p.m. near Iyana Iba New Road.

The rider said the man asked to stop at a Point of Sale (POS) terminal to withdraw money using an ATM card.

“As soon as I handed the card to the POS operator, he jumped on my motorcycle and sped off,” Henry explained.

The suspect, still in military gear, vanished into the night with the motorcycle, leaving Henry stranded.

Days later, Henry spotted the suspect near First Gate, Igbo–Elerin, on the LASU–Iyana Iba Road. He quickly alerted a nearby patrol team from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

Lagos Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the case and said the suspect abandoned the motorcycle and fled on sighting the officers.

“The bike has been returned to the owner. A manhunt is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect,” Hundeyin added.

The police advised Lagos residents to stay vigilant, as there have been several recent cases involving impersonators in military uniforms.
