Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued seven kidnapped victims in Taraba State during a coordinated operation that targeted suspected criminal hideouts.
The victims, who were abducted on August 3, 2025, along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari Road, were freed during a two-day operation carried out on August 5 and 6.
According to military sources, the rescue mission began in Chinkai Forest, where four victims were recovered unharmed on the first day. The operation continued the next day in the Owedi community of Wukari Local Government Area, where three more victims—all women—were rescued.
The kidnappers reportedly abandoned their victims and fled into the bush after facing heavy fire from the troops.
Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their courage and swift action. He described the operation as a major success in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and banditry in Taraba State.
General Uwa also assured residents that the Army will continue to maintain pressure on criminal elements to restore peace and security across the state.
