There was tension in Gona town, Bauchi State, on Friday, August 8, 2025, as eight suspects escaped from police custody in the early hours of the day.
According to police sources, the detainees broke out of their cell at about 12:20 a.m. and forcefully exited through a nearby door before fleeing to an unknown location.
The Divisional Police Officer, Makama, confirmed the incident and said a rapid response team was immediately deployed alongside surveillance units to track down the escapees.
So far, one of the suspects, identified as Abdullahi Haliru, has been rearrested, while efforts are ongoing to recapture the remaining seven.
Police authorities have issued alerts across the area to aid in the search and urged the public to report any suspicious movements.
