Property Audit Not Political – Ogun Govt Replies Senator Daniel

The Ogun State Government has denied claims by Senator Gbenga Daniel that recent quit and demolition notices issued on some of his properties in Sagamu were politically motivated.

The government responded through a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, on Saturday, describing Daniel’s accusation as “a barefaced lie.”

According to the state government, the notices served on Daniel’s properties were part of a routine development audit being carried out across the Sagamu Government Reserved Area (GRA), and not a targeted attack.

“This initiative involves auditing existing developments such as homes, schools, hospitals, and commercial buildings,” the statement explained, adding that the process is in line with the Ogun State Town Planning Law.

The government said similar audits had been done in the past — including during Gbenga Daniel’s own tenure as governor — and that no one, regardless of status, is exempt from the law.

“Senator Daniel is not above the law. Like every other person in the area, he is simply required to present his planning permit and land title for verification,” the statement added.

It accused the former governor of turning a routine regulatory process into a political issue and urged him to cooperate with authorities instead of making public accusations.

“Governor Abiodun holds Senator Daniel in high regard, but that does not mean the law should be bent for him,” the government stressed.

This development follows a strong accusation by Daniel earlier in the week, where he alleged that the state was planning to demolish his private residence and hotel using a recently enacted law, which he described as a political witch-hunt.
