The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested seven suspected armed robbers in a major raid on a criminal hideout in Ikot Osong village, Obot Akara Local Government Area.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the suspects were part of a notorious gang that has been terrorizing residents of Ikot Ekpene and surrounding areas.

The raid, which took place around 2:30am on August 8, followed the killing of one of the robbers during a failed robbery attempt and the arrest of the gang leader, who was hiding in Imo State. The gang leader’s confession reportedly gave police the key information that led them to the hideout.

DSP John said the location also served as a shrine, where the suspects allegedly used charms and other native substances to fortify themselves before going on criminal operations.

    The seven arrested suspects include:

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the state command to clamp down on violent crime and restore peace in the affected communities.
