Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk has explained why Victor Osimhen was left out of the team’s first league match of the new Turkish Super Lig season against Gaziantep.
Osimhen’s absence surprised many fans, but Galatasaray still secured a comfortable 3-0 win. The Nigerian striker had spent last season on loan with the club before completing a permanent transfer just two weeks ago.
Buruk told CNN Turk that Osimhen had only five or six days of training since joining permanently. He added that playing the striker so soon could have been risky.
“Playing here during that period could have been risky for him,” Buruk said.
The coach’s cautious approach suggests that Osimhen will be gradually integrated into the team as he adapts fully to Galatasaray’s system.
