    Brace for Rains: NiMet Issues Flood Alert Nationwide

    The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert, warning Nigerians to expect heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible flooding across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

    The forecast, released over the weekend, highlights a high flood risk in both northern and southern states, urging residents and local authorities to prepare for severe weather conditions.

    According to NiMet, northern states such as Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba will experience morning thunderstorms on Monday, followed by moderate rainfall in Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Adamawa later in the day. High flood risks are expected in Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Sokoto States.

    In the central region, light rain is predicted over Niger State in the morning, with thunderstorms and rains forecast later in the day in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kogi States. NiMet says Plateau, Nasarawa, and Niger States also face high chances of flooding.

    The southern states will see cloudy skies and light rains in the morning over Ebonyi, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. Moderate rainfall is expected later in the day in Enugu, Edo, Ekiti, Osun, Abia, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom. High flood risks have been flagged in Delta, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.

    NiMet urged residents in the affected areas to remain alert and avoid flood-prone zones, especially during peak rainfall hours. Motorists are also advised to drive carefully and watch out for waterlogged roads.
