The Niger State Police Command has arrested five suspected thugs, including a notorious gang leader, during separate operations in Minna, the state capital.
The gang leader, 19-year-old Jamilu Abdullahi, also known as Zabo, was arrested on August 2, 2025, during a police raid around Stadium Road. He was found with a sharp iron weapon allegedly used for stabbing and robbing unsuspecting victims.
Police say Abdullahi had been on their wanted list for a case of culpable homicide and was linked with other well-known criminals — Musa Kaura, Kaule, and Gaiye — who have been terrorizing parts of Minna, especially Anguwan-Daji, Limawa, New Market, and Maitunbi areas.
In a follow-up operation carried out on August 6 by the Anti-Thuggery Unit, four more suspects were arrested in the Barkin-Sale area of the city. They were reportedly found with dangerous weapons, including three knives, a pair of scissors, and substances suspected to be cannabis.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests and said all the suspects are currently under investigation. He added that they would be charged to court once investigations are completed.
SP Abiodun also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, assuring that the command is working round the clock to ensure the safety of communities across Minna.
The arrest of these suspects is seen as part of ongoing efforts to tackle rising youth thuggery and street crimes in the state.
