A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has said that it was President Bola Tinubu who offended him — not the other way around.
Lawal made this statement during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, on Monday.
When asked if he is still friends with President Tinubu, Lawal replied:
“Yes, of course. We are friends. You should be able to tell your friend the truth even on national TV.”
However, he revealed that the last time he spoke with Tinubu was in July 2022, before the presidential elections.
Speaking further, Lawal said:
“The problem with Bola Tinubu is that he thinks that I offended him. I didn’t offend him. But he offended me. And he’s full of himself. Because he thinks he’s the so-called president.”
Babachir Lawal was a strong supporter of Tinubu during the early stages of the 2023 elections but later withdrew his support after Tinubu picked a Muslim-Muslim ticket. Since then, he has been a vocal critic of the President and his policies.
His latest comments have stirred mixed reactions across political circles, with some calling for reconciliation while others see it as a continuation of long-standing political tension.
