We Only Issued Stop Notice, Not Sealing Order – Ogun Govt

The Ogun State Government has denied reports that it sealed any property belonging to former Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel.

At a press briefing in Abeokuta on Monday, the Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Tunji Odunlami, said the government was not aware of any sealing action on the senator’s property.

He explained that what was issued was not a sealing order, but a “stop-and-quit” notice, which is a routine part of the state’s physical planning enforcement process.

“The notice is only to ask the property owners to come forward with their building documents for proper verification,” Odunlami said. “Before any property is sealed, it must first be marked clearly, usually with a sticker or sign.”

According to him, this verification exercise started in Abeokuta and is now being extended to Shagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and soon to Ota and Ilaro, especially in areas classified as Government Reserved Areas (GRAs).

He advised Senator Gbenga Daniel to send a representative to the relevant government office with the necessary documents, noting that the senator has not done so as of the time of the briefing.

Odunlami added that the enforcement of building regulations is not based on individuals’ identities or political status, but is a legal obligation of the government to ensure orderly development and public safety.

“This is a normal process,” he said. “The law applies to everyone equally.”
