Security operatives in Sokoto State have arrested Sirajo Ahmad Dan Liman, the Deputy Chief Imam of the Central Jumu’ah Mosque in Kangiye, Gwadabawa Local Government Area. He is accused of collaborating with armed bandits operating near the Tangaza–Niger Republic border.
According to sources, investigations revealed that Sirajo supplied motorcycles and other essential items to the bandit groups. Authorities also discovered N47 million in his bank account, suspected to be proceeds from these illegal activities.
Further checks showed that Sirajo holds political positions as the ward chairman of a political party in Atakwanyo and secretary of the forum of political party chairmen in Gwadabawa LGA.
Sirajo, who often deputised for his father, the Chief Imam, during Ramadan and Friday prayers, was under discreet surveillance before his arrest.
Security officials said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to break the financial and logistic support systems behind banditry in Sokoto and nearby states.
