Popular Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, better known as Charly Boy or “Area Fada”, has warned politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying any attempt to rig the polls will come with serious consequences.
Speaking in an interview on 90MinutesAfrica with Rudolf Okonkwo, the 73-year-old music icon described the upcoming election as a turning point for Nigeria’s future.
“The 2027 election will be a defining moment for Nigeria. Anybody that plans to rig should be ready to die. It is rig and die,” he declared.
Charly Boy, who has been active in civic advocacy for years, added that Nigerians are becoming more politically aware and will not accept electoral fraud.
“Our eye don dey clear. It has cleared small already. What we will see in 2026 will make Nigerians decide whether to continue like this or to trigger a revolution,” he said.
He stressed that the only way to end bad governance in Nigeria is through credible elections where every vote counts. “The solution to bad governance can only come when our votes begin to count,” he added.
Reacting to the recent decision by the Lagos State Government to rename the ‘Charly Boy Bus Stop’ in Bariga, the entertainer dismissed it as “silly and a bloody distraction.”
He said he’s more focused on fighting for the rights of ordinary Nigerians, many of whom, he noted, go to bed hungry every day.
Charly Boy has long been a vocal critic of political injustice and social inequality, and his latest comments continue to spark conversation across the country as preparations for 2027 begin to take shape.
