In a major international security breakthrough, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested and repatriated a wanted Chinese gang leader, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to China, following a well-coordinated operation with INTERPOL and Chinese authorities.

The arrest and deportation of Dai, a notorious fugitive who had been on the run since 2024, was officially announced on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

According to the police statement, the operation was carried out by officers of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja in partnership with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.

Dai was arrested in Abuja on August 8, 2025, after months of tracking, and was deported to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under a police-to-police cooperation agreement.

Dai Qisheng is described by Chinese authorities as the leader of a violent criminal gang responsible for a string of organized crimes in Guizhou Province, China. His alleged offences include racketeering, extortion, violent assaults, and running an underground network of illegal activities in Zhijin County.

After an arrest warrant was issued for him by the Public Security Bureau in 2024, Dai managed to flee China and had remained a fugitive ever since.

His presence in Nigeria went undetected until INTERPOL’s intelligence-sharing system flagged his movements. Acting on the red notice issued by INTERPOL, Nigerian operatives tracked him down to Abuja, where he was taken into custody without resistance.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the success of the operation and emphasized Nigeria’s strong position against harbouring international fugitives.

“This operation sends a clear message to criminals worldwide: Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives,” the IGP said.

He also highlighted the importance of international collaboration, noting that transnational crimes like those involving Dai can only be tackled through intelligence-sharing, joint operations, and mutual trust among nations.

“Through INTERPOL, we are building global bridges to ensure that justice is served regardless of where a criminal may hide,” Egbetokun added.

The IGP expressed appreciation to the Chinese authorities for their cooperation and praised INTERPOL for its role in coordinating the successful mission.

The arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng is being seen as a landmark achievement in international policing. The case underlines the growing strength of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureaus (NCBs) in Africa, particularly in Nigeria, which continues to play a critical role in combating global crime.

The INTERPOL National Central Bureau Abuja served as the coordinating point between the Nigerian Police, Chinese law enforcement, and INTERPOL headquarters, ensuring that all legal and procedural steps were followed during Dai’s arrest and deportation.

This type of police-to-police cooperation is part of INTERPOL’s broader efforts to encourage member countries to work together seamlessly in fighting international crime.
