Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has completed a move to Saudi Women’s Premier League side Al-Hilal, continuing her football journey with a two-year contract in the Middle East.
Oshoala joins Al-Hilal from Bay FC, a club in the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), where she played since February 2024. She scored seven goals in 38 appearances during her time with the American side.
The 30-year-old Nigerian forward is one of Africa’s most decorated female footballers and has played in top leagues in Europe and America, including stints at Liverpool, Arsenal, and Barcelona, where she won multiple trophies.
Her move to Saudi Arabia marks another chapter in her successful career, and she now becomes the latest Super Falcons player to feature in the growing Saudi women’s football scene. She joins Francisca Ordega and Ashleigh Plumptre, who also play for clubs in the Saudi league.
Al-Hilal confirmed the signing in an official announcement, celebrating Oshoala’s arrival as a major boost to their squad ahead of the new season. The transfer is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to attract top talent and develop women’s football in the country.
Oshoala’s move comes at a time when the Saudi Women’s Premier League is gaining attention for its rapid growth and increased investment in female sports. The league continues to attract international players, and Oshoala’s presence is expected to raise the competition level and fan interest.
The Lagos-born striker has long been a role model for young girls across Nigeria and Africa. She won the CAF African Women’s Player of the Year award six times and was one of the standout players at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, helping Nigeria reach the round of 16.
With her vast experience and winning mentality, Oshoala is expected to play a key role in Al-Hilal’s push for domestic titles and international recognition.
This move also highlights the increasing trend of Nigerian female footballers seeking opportunities in emerging markets like the Middle East, where women’s football is beginning to gain global attention.
