Bracket’s Smash: P-Square Rift Is Spiritual, Not Ordinary

    Share

Nigerian singer Obumneme Ali, popularly known as Smash, one half of the music duo Bracket, has said that the long-running feud between twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye of the group P-Square is not ordinary but spiritual.

Smash made the statement during a recent appearance on the AFRIMMA Podcast alongside his music partner, Vast. He claimed that he has been close to both brothers and has tried to understand the root of their repeated conflicts over the years.

According to Smash, he has often visited Peter’s house, and Peter has always been receptive and open to discussion. However, he insisted that something deeper is behind the constant fallout between the once inseparable duo.

“I’m closer to Paul than Peter, but I always go to Peter’s house, and he listens to me whenever I speak to him,” Smash said. “But unfortunately, if you ask me as an in-house, I will say that problem is spiritual.”

Smash further revealed that he recently confronted Paul Okoye about the situation, telling him that their issues don’t appear normal and Paul agreed.

“The last time I met Paul, I told him his problem with his brother Peter wasn’t normal, that it’s spiritual  and he agreed,” he said. “If you know how close these guys were and how they worked, you will feel so bad looking at what is going on today.”

He described how the bond between the twins, especially during their peak years, was admired by everyone around them. He also noted the role of their elder brother, Jude Okoye, in building and managing the P-Square brand, stating that all three were passionate about their music and worked in unity for years.

The P-Square group, made up of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, was one of Africa’s biggest music acts in the 2000s and early 2010s, known for their hit songs, electrifying performances, and sold-out shows across the continent.

However, in 2017, the group officially split after years of tension, with both brothers going solo — Peter rebranding as Mr. P, and Paul as Rudeboy.

Although they reunited in 2021, their relationship has remained shaky, with fans often expressing concern about their long-term unity.

Following Smash’s comments, fans have taken to social media to express their sadness over the situation, with many hoping that the brothers will find lasting peace and rekindle the magic that once made P-Square Africa’s top duo.

While neither Peter nor Paul has publicly responded to Smash’s latest claims, the comments have once again thrown the spotlight on the unresolved tension between the twin brothers  and raised questions about what it will take for P-Square to stay united.
