Senator Ahmed Wadada Rejoins APC After Winning Senate Seat on SDP Platform

    Share

The Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Ahmed Wadada Aliyu, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmaker, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, made the announcement on Tuesday.

Senator Wadada had left the APC in 2022 after political disagreements within the party. He went on to contest the 2023 Senate election under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he won and became one of the few SDP lawmakers in the National Assembly.

Now, just over a year after his victory, he has declared his return to the ruling APC.

In a statement confirming his decision, Senator Wadada said:

“I am writing to inform you of my decision to return to our great party, the All Progressives Congress. After careful consideration, I have decided to re-join the party so as to contribute to its growth, development, and success.”

Political observers believe this move may strengthen the APC in Nasarawa State, where the party remains dominant. Senator Wadada is a well-known political figure in the state, with strong grassroots support. His return could help the party consolidate its hold ahead of future elections.

Sources within the APC said that party leaders welcomed Wadada’s return, seeing it as a sign of renewed unity among key stakeholders in the state.

Senator Wadada’s political journey has seen many turns. He was initially a member of the APC and had hoped to run for Senate under the party in 2023. However, he pulled out after alleging irregularities in the party’s primary process. He later joined the SDP and defeated both the APC and PDP candidates in the general election, in what many described as a major political upset.

His time in the SDP was marked by calls for transparency and reforms in public finance, especially through his role as head of the Senate Public Accounts Committee.

It remains to be seen how this development will affect political calculations in Nasarawa State and beyond, but one thing is clear — Senator Wadada is once again part of the APC family.
