The member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has raised alarm over what he described as repeated and targeted attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his constituency.
Doguwa, a ranking federal lawmaker and former Majority Leader in the House, accused supporters of the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State of orchestrating violent attacks against APC members and property, particularly in the Tudun Wada area of the state.
Speaking to journalists over the weekend, Doguwa condemned the latest attack, which occurred on Thursday, August 28, when thugs reportedly stormed Tasarrufi General Enterprise, a local factory in Tudun Wada, leaving several workers injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the factory was attacked during what was described as a politically charged operation allegedly supervised by the Local Government Chairman of Tudun Wada. The attackers, believed to be political thugs, vandalised parts of the facility and assaulted staff members, prompting widespread outrage from the community.
Describing the incident as “barbaric”, Doguwa said the attack was not an isolated case but part of an ongoing pattern of intimidation and violence against APC supporters in the area.
“We are witnessing a deliberate campaign of violence against our people and our party,” Doguwa stated. “What we saw was a barbaric attack on our people and our party offices, organised and perpetuated by the Local Government Chairman himself.”
He continued, “One of the main targets was the APC Chairman in Tudun Wada Local Government, Alhaji Suyudi Umar, who has consistently faced harassment. These attacks are often carried out under the cover of the ruling NNPP’s operations.”
Doguwa called on security agencies to act quickly and professionally to investigate the matter, insisting that no one should be allowed to act above the law.
“The law must take its course. It doesn’t matter who you are. The police and other security forces must rise to their duty and protect lives, property, and the democratic process,” he said.
The lawmaker also drew attention to his own history of political persecution in the state. He recalled being falsely accused of murder by the NNPP-led state government during the last general elections.
“Everyone remembers how they tried to frame me with a murder charge. But the Federal High Courts in both Abuja and Kano cleared me of any wrongdoing,” he said. “In fact, the courts awarded a total of N25 million in damages against the Kano State Government and the Governor for the false accusations.”
Reacting to the incident, the Kano State Police Command confirmed that it had received a formal complaint and had launched an investigation into the matter.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Kiyawa, said all parties involved in the incident have been invited for questioning, including the ALGON Chairperson, under whose watch the violence allegedly occurred.
“There is a formal complaint against the ALGON Chairperson. All the witnesses and the suspect have been invited to assist with the investigation,” Kiyawa said.
He also revealed that the orderly attached to the ALGON Chairperson has been recalled to the command for questioning.
Kano State has been a hotbed of political rivalry, especially since the NNPP took over power in the 2023 general elections, unseating the long-dominant APC in the state. Since then, tensions have remained high between supporters of both parties, particularly in constituencies like Doguwa/Tudun Wada where APC maintains strong grassroots support.
