Chelsea Can’t Win EPL This Season – John Terry

    Share

Former Chelsea captain and club legend, John Terry, has said that Chelsea do not have what it takes to win the English Premier League (EPL) this season.

Terry, who won multiple league titles during his playing career at Stamford Bridge, pointed to the lack of experience in the current Chelsea squad as a major reason why they won’t be able to challenge for the title.

Speaking in an interview with talkSPORT, the former England defender said that although Chelsea has made a strong start to the season, they are not yet ready to compete with top clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal.

“We are a young squad. Do I think we will [win the league]? No, I don’t, being honest with you. But I think we’ll be right amongst it,” Terry said.

Chelsea have played three matches so far this season, winning two and drawing one. The team is currently enjoying good form under their new management and hopes are high among fans. However, Terry believes fans should manage their expectations.

“I’m not sure Chelsea have enough experience within their squad to push Liverpool,” he added. “And also I don’t want to put pressure on the Chelsea squad as well, so I think it’s Liverpool’s to lose.”

Chelsea will face Brentford on Saturday as they aim to continue their positive start to the season.

The London club won the UEFA Conference League last season, which earned them a return to the Champions League after missing out the previous year. The team has invested heavily in young players in recent transfer windows, but some critics believe the team lacks the maturity needed for a title-winning campaign.

While Terry’s comments may not be what fans want to hear, they reflect a growing belief among pundits that Chelsea still needs time to rebuild fully and grow into a title-contending team.

The Premier League remains one of the most competitive leagues in the world, with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal seen as the current favourites for the 2025/2026 title.
