    Share

A Facebook post by a female resident of Adamawa State has led to the arrest of a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP) operator accused of snatching her purse.

The victim, identified as Jennifer Emmanuel, took to her Facebook page to raise alarm after her purse, which she said contained over ₦100,000, was allegedly snatched by the Keke rider. She also shared the tricycle’s number plate, which she had managed to snap before the suspect fled.

Jennifer’s post quickly gained attention online. It read: “If you see any Keke man with this plate number, he is a criminal. He snatched my purse with over ₦100k inside and ran away. Luckily I snapped his plate number. Please, help me.”

The incident reportedly took place in Girei, a town near the Adamawa State capital, Yola, though the Keke is said to have been registered in Mubi, a town in the northern part of the state.

Following the viral post, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) of the Adamawa State Police Command acted swiftly and traced the suspect.

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police confirmed the arrest.

“Sequel to the social media post by the victim, the operatives of the State Intelligence Department swung into action and arrested the suspect,” the statement read.

Nguroje added that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court as soon as inquiries are completed.

The Police Command used the opportunity to commend the public for helping fight crime through timely information and urged more residents to make use of such platforms to support security efforts—responsibly and truthfully.

“This case shows how social media can play a powerful role in exposing criminal activities. We encourage citizens to report crimes through any available means,” SP Nguroje said.

The incident has sparked discussions online about the importance of vigilance, quick thinking, and community support in tackling petty crimes across the state.

Many social media users have praised Jennifer for her presence of mind to take a photo of the plate number, which turned out to be the key to tracking down the suspect.
