The convoy of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was on Friday attacked by suspected political thugs in Argungu, Kebbi State.

The incident occurred shortly after Malami attended a wedding ceremony in the town. Eyewitnesses said the attackers, believed to be wearing All Progressives Congress (APC) branded clothing, launched the assault as the convoy was leaving the event.

According to reports, the thugs targeted some vehicles in the convoy, hurling insults and wielding weapons. Although no deaths or injuries were officially reported, the attack has raised concerns about rising political violence in the state.

This is the second time in a month that Malami’s convoy has been attacked. In September, his convoy was also targeted while on a condolence visit along Old NITEL Road in Birnin Kebbi.

Both incidents have sparked strong reactions on social media and within political circles, with many calling for immediate action to prevent further violence. The repeated attacks suggest growing political tension in Kebbi State, which has traditionally been known for its peaceful political atmosphere.

The use of suspected party thugs in both incidents has further deepened concerns about political thuggery and insecurity in the state. Some citizens fear that if left unchecked, such attacks may escalate and destabilise the political environment ahead of future elections.

Security agencies have been urged to swiftly investigate the attacks, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure the safety of political leaders and citizens alike. Stakeholders are also calling on political parties to caution their supporters against violence.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Malami nor the Kebbi State Police Command has issued an official statement regarding Friday’s attack.
