    Share

A viral video showing severe bruises on a young pupil allegedly beaten by her teacher at a private school in Abakpa Nike, Enugu State, has sparked outrage and widespread condemnation across social media platforms.

The disturbing incident reportedly occurred on Monday and has drawn sharp criticism from Nigerians demanding immediate action and justice for the child.

In the video circulating online, the mother of the pupil is seen crying bitterly as she displays her daughter’s wounds to onlookers. She alleges that the teacher flogged her child so severely that the young girl could barely walk.

“I want to show you people my baby’s wound. Are you seeing what a teacher did to my child?” the mother said in tears, while visibly distressed and surrounded by concerned bystanders.

Eyewitnesses in the video can be heard urging the school authorities to bring out the teacher responsible. Some people tried to calm the distraught mother, while others called for the school to be held accountable for the excessive punishment allegedly meted out to the child.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the school management, nor has the Enugu State Ministry of Education issued a statement regarding the incident.

The video has triggered a flood of reactions online, with many Nigerians condemning the teacher’s alleged actions and calling on the state government and child protection agencies to intervene swiftly.

“This is child abuse and should not be allowed to go unpunished,” one social media user posted. Others demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the teacher involved.

The case has raised fresh concerns about the use of corporal punishment in schools, especially in private institutions where regulation and monitoring are often lacking.

While corporal punishment has not been officially banned in many parts of Nigeria, education stakeholders have repeatedly called for alternatives to physical discipline, citing psychological and emotional harm to children.
