The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Ngozi Olejeme, a former board chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), over alleged money laundering involving more than ₦1 billion.
Olejeme appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. She was arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on money laundering, illegal transfer of funds, and possession of suspected proceeds of crime.
According to the EFCC, the offences were committed while Olejeme was the NSITF board chairperson, a position she held between 2009 and 2015 during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
One of the charges alleges that in February 2012, Olejeme indirectly converted ₦321.6 million through the account of a company named Adin Miles International Ltd. The commission claims the money was part of unlawful proceeds linked to abuse of office — a violation of Section 15(2)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended).
EFCC investigators say the total amount involved in the alleged fraud stands at over ₦1 billion.
During Wednesday’s court session, Olejeme pleaded not guilty to all the charges read out to her. Her legal team requested bail, which the court said would be considered after hearing arguments from both sides.
Justice Nwite adjourned the case to a later date for further hearing and ordered that Olejeme be remanded in EFCC custody pending the determination of her bail application.
Ngozi Olejeme was a key political figure during the Jonathan administration and previously served as a member of the Presidential Campaign Organisation in 2015. She has faced investigations since 2017 when the EFCC first linked her to suspicious financial activities during her time at NSITF.
The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund is a government agency responsible for providing social security for workers, including compensation for work-related injuries. Over the years, the agency has been marred by reports of financial mismanagement.
