The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of six nominees as commissioners for the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
The confirmation followed the presentation and consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs during plenary.
Presenting the report, the committee chairman, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, said the nominees possessed the required qualifications and experience to effectively discharge their duties.
“We are convinced of their suitability,” Abdullahi told his colleagues while urging them to support the committee’s recommendation for approval.
The confirmed nominees are Bello Wamakko (Sokoto), Hadizatu Mustapha (Borno), Sen. Marafa Abba (Taraba), Ahmed Hassan (Adamawa), Bob Inafa (Bayelsa), and Gboyega Oladele (Osun).
Presiding over the plenary, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau congratulated the new commissioners, describing their confirmation as a call to national service.
He urged them to perform their duties with transparency and fairness, noting that their work would have a direct impact on Nigeria’s revenue management and economic planning.
“This appointment is a call to serve the nation. We expect the new commissioners to contribute meaningfully to the equitable distribution of the nation’s resources,” Barau said.
The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is a federal body established to monitor revenue accruals into the Federation Account and ensure fair distribution among the three tiers of government. It also advises the government on fiscal matters and determines the remuneration of political and public office holders.
The commission plays a key role in ensuring transparency and accountability in how Nigeria’s revenue is shared, especially in a period of economic challenges and rising demands from state governments for increased allocations.
