Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped an Anglican priest, Reverend Edwin Achi, and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Achi, in Kaduna State.
The couple was reportedly abducted early Tuesday morning from their home in Nissi community, located in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
A member of the Anglican Church of Nigeria confirmed the incident, saying the attackers stormed the community in the early hours of the day and took the priest and his wife away.
He expressed concern that the attack had not received media attention despite the growing insecurity in the area.
“The incident happened on Tuesday morning. Reverend Edwin Achi and his wife, Sarah, were kidnapped from their residence in Nissi village,” the church member said. “We are worried that such a serious attack has gone unreported.”
Chikun Local Government Area has suffered repeated attacks from armed groups in recent years. Bandits have targeted communities, schools, and religious leaders, often demanding ransom for their release.
Many residents have been forced to flee their homes, while others live in fear as kidnappings and killings continue in several parts of Kaduna, particularly in the southern and central zones.
Just last month, several villagers were kidnapped along the Kaduna–Abuja Road, and in September, bandits raided another community in the same Chikun area, abducting multiple residents.
Members of the Anglican community have appealed to security agencies to act swiftly and ensure the safe return of Reverend Achi and his wife.
The state government has not yet released an official statement on the incident, and it remains unclear whether contact has been established with the kidnappers.
Residents of Nissi village have described the situation as tense and are calling for immediate intervention to prevent further attacks.
Kaduna, one of the states most affected by banditry in northern Nigeria, continues to face serious security challenges, with several cases of abductions and attacks recorded in 2025 alone.
