A University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) student, Chrisantus Chukwuebuka Nwankwo, popularly known on campus as DJ Brownlex, has tragically died in a car accident while travelling to singer Davido’s concert in Enugu on Saturday.
The 300-level Economics student was among a group of students travelling in a bus that reportedly left the park late in the evening without functioning headlights. The bus collided with a parked trailer along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, leading to a devastating accident.
Both DJ Brownlex and the bus driver died instantly at the scene. Several other students on board sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka.
Eyewitnesses said the bus’s lack of proper lighting contributed to the collision. The incident has sparked concern among students and residents over road safety and the risks associated with travelling at night on major highways.
DJ Brownlex was known on campus for his talent as a DJ and his lively presence at student events. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through UNN, with friends and colleagues expressing deep grief over the tragedy.
The Enugu-Onitsha Expressway has been the site of several fatal accidents in the past, highlighting the urgent need for improved road safety measures and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.
