Popular TikTok personality, Peller, has publicly apologised to Nigerians following his arrest and detention by the Lagos State Police Command over an incident involving dangerous driving and what police described as an attempt to harm himself.
The social media influencer made the apology in a video that has since gone viral online. In the short clip, Peller appeared calm and remorseful as he appealed to Nigerians for forgiveness and promised that such an incident would not happen again.
“I am sorry, Nigerians. Please, I’m sorry. I will never do that again,” he said. “I’m very sorry, please. For now, I am on medication. Once I am done with my medication, I will be online.”
The incident that led to Peller’s arrest happened on Sunday, December 14, 2025, along the busy Lekki–Epe Expressway in Lagos. According to police sources, the influencer was allegedly driving in a dangerous manner while livestreaming on social media.
The police said his actions posed a serious risk to other road users and reportedly resulted in a major traffic accident. The situation quickly drew public attention after videos and reports of the incident circulated widely online.
The Lagos State Police Command later confirmed that Peller was taken into custody following the incident, describing his conduct as reckless and unsafe.
In an official statement, the Lagos State Police Command said Peller’s actions were considered a serious threat to public safety. The police also stated that his behaviour suggested a deliberate act that could have caused serious harm.
Authorities confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. According to the police, Peller will be charged to court once investigations are completed.
The police did not release full details of the accident but stressed that dangerous driving, especially when combined with social media activity, would not be tolerated.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and digital content creators.
He cautioned against promoting or displaying reckless behaviour online in the name of creating content, noting that such actions could lead to loss of lives and property.
The commissioner said influencers must understand that their actions have wide reach and influence, especially among young people, and must act responsibly.
“Social media fame does not place anyone above the law,” the police chief warned, adding that offenders would face firm consequences regardless of their status.
The controversy surrounding Peller’s arrest has also been linked to personal challenges in his private life. Reports indicate that the incident followed his recent breakup with his girlfriend, Jarvis.
Jarvis had earlier confirmed that their relationship had ended, explaining that Peller’s struggles with emotional control were a major reason for her decision to walk away.
Although neither party gave detailed explanations, the breakup became a topic of discussion online, especially among their followers.
Some social media users believe the emotional stress from the split may have affected Peller’s actions, though police have focused strictly on the safety and legal issues involved.
Peller’s apology has received mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media. While some users expressed sympathy and urged the public to show understanding, others criticised his actions and called for strict punishment to serve as a warning to others.
Many Nigerians praised the police for acting swiftly, saying that dangerous behaviour on major highways should not be excused, regardless of the person involved.
Others pointed out that public figures have a responsibility to set good examples, especially because young people often copy what they see online.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the growing trend of risky behaviour among content creators seeking views and engagement on social media platforms.
In recent years, Nigerian authorities have repeatedly warned against stunts, reckless driving, and other dangerous acts filmed for online content. Road safety agencies have also cautioned that such actions contribute to accidents and loss of lives.
Peller rose to fame through TikTok, where he built a large following with entertaining and sometimes controversial content. His popularity made him one of the well-known young influencers in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital space.
Like many influencers, his content attracted both fans and critics. While supporters admire his creativity and confidence, critics have often questioned some of his choices online.
The latest incident, however, has marked one of the most serious controversies associated with his name.
Following the incident, some Nigerians have called for a balanced approach that combines accountability with support. They argue that while the law must take its course, there is also a need for better awareness about emotional health and responsible behaviour.
Others have urged influencers to seek help when dealing with personal challenges rather than turning to risky actions that could endanger lives.
Road safety advocates have also used the opportunity to remind drivers that Nigerian roads are not places for content creation and that safety should always come first.
As investigations continue, all eyes are on the Lagos State Police Command and the outcome of the case. The police have maintained that Peller will be arraigned in court once the investigation is concluded.
For now, Peller has promised to step back from social media while he completes his medication and reflects on his actions.
Whether his apology will restore public trust remains to be seen. However, the incident has sent a clear message that fame does not excuse dangerous behaviour.
