The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has disclosed that it prosecuted a total of 125 cases involving rape, vandalism, theft, murder, culpable homicide, and other civil and criminal offences between January and December 2025.

The Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Muhammad Kabiru Ingawa, made this known while briefing journalists on the achievements and challenges of the Command in the outgoing year. He said the recorded cases reflected the Command’s determination to protect lives, property, and critical public assets across the state.

According to Ingawa, the Command adopted a more proactive approach to crime prevention in 2025, which contributed to a reduction in criminal activities compared to what was recorded in 2024. He explained that early intelligence gathering, increased patrols, and stronger community engagement helped officers to detect and prevent crimes before they escalated.

“The Command has focused on prevention rather than reaction. This strategy has helped in reducing crime and ensuring that offenders are arrested and prosecuted according to the law,” Ingawa said.

He noted that cases handled by the Command covered a wide range of offences, including rape, which remains a serious concern nationwide, as well as vandalism of public infrastructure, theft, and violent crimes. He stressed that the NSCDC treats all such cases seriously and works closely with the courts to ensure justice is served.

Beyond prosecution, the Commandant highlighted the role of the NSCDC in protecting schools and other important facilities in the state. He revealed that over 9,000 private security guards were trained by the Command during the year under review. These guards are deployed to schools, government buildings, and private facilities to support security efforts.

Ingawa explained that the training focused on basic security skills, discipline, emergency response, and collaboration with government security agencies. He said the aim was to improve safety in schools and reduce risks to students, teachers, and school property.

The Commandant also disclosed that the NSCDC successfully stopped more than 30 attempted acts of vandalism during the year. The targets included power lines, water supply facilities, and other public infrastructure that are vital to daily life.

According to him, vandalism of public facilities not only causes economic losses but also affects ordinary citizens who depend on electricity and water for their daily activities. He said the Command recovered several stolen items and handed suspects over for prosecution.

“The protection of critical national assets is one of our core responsibilities. We have intensified surveillance and patrols around these facilities to prevent damage and service disruption,” Ingawa stated.

He acknowledged that the successes recorded by the Command were made possible through strong cooperation with the Jigawa State Government, other security agencies, and members of the public. He said intelligence sharing and joint operations with the police, military, and other agencies played a key role in maintaining peace in the state.

Ingawa also praised residents of Jigawa for supporting security efforts by providing timely information and cooperating with officers during operations. He noted that community support is essential in the fight against crime, especially in preventing offences before they occur.

Jigawa State is generally considered one of the more peaceful states in the country, but like other parts of Nigeria, it still faces challenges related to crime, youth unemployment, and vandalism. Security agencies in the state have continued to stress the importance of vigilance and public participation in maintaining peace.

Despite the achievements, the NSCDC Commandant admitted that the Command still faces challenges. These include limited manpower, logistics, and funding, which sometimes affect response time and coverage. However, he assured that officers remain committed to their duties despite these constraints.

Ingawa reassured residents that the NSCDC would continue to improve its strategies and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and stability. He said the Command would not relent in its efforts to protect lives, property, and national assets in Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
