The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the loud predictions of doom by opposition parties against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration failed spectacularly in 2025.
The party criticized what it described as the opposition’s constant “alarmism,” which included forecasts of famine, anarchy, state collapse, mass unrest, and foreign intervention in Nigeria. According to the APC, none of these predictions came to pass.
The statement was issued on Wednesday to mark Christmas 2025 by the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo. It was titled, “Special Merry Christmas to Nigeria: Tested, Thankful, Unbroken.”
Oladejo said the opposition had sunk to a new low in its politics by rooting for national failure simply to validate partisan fantasies. He described their tactics as a combination of political prophecy, professional alarmism, and the work of what he called “spiritual merchants of catastrophe.”
“Christmas 2025 finds Nigeria standing-tested, pressured, yet unbroken,” Oladejo said in the statement. “The opposition and their echo chambers predicted famine, anarchy, state collapse, mass unrest, and foreign intervention. None came to pass. Their doomsday timelines expired one after the other, leaving only embarrassment in their wake.”
The APC spokesman accused opposition forces of deliberately undermining Nigeria’s image to score political points, saying that they exaggerated narratives, distorted data, and lobbied foreign audiences to cast doubt on the country’s stability.
“Never in our recent history has opposition politics sunk so low,” he said. “Rooting for national failure simply to validate partisan fantasies is unprecedented.”
Despite the constant warnings of disaster, Oladejo highlighted that Nigeria endured through the year. He praised the country’s institutions for holding firm, democracy for continuing, and security forces for making strategic gains, even amid sabotage and misinformation.
“Our economy showed early signs of stabilization and recovery. Nigerians adapted, endured, and moved forward with the quiet strength that has defined our history,” he said.
Oladejo described Christmas 2025 not just as a religious celebration, but also as a celebration of national resilience. He said the season is proof that Nigeria is stronger than its detractors, wiser than its pessimists, and more enduring than the manufactured narratives of collapse sold daily by political opponents.
The Lagos APC also reaffirmed its support for the Tinubu administration, emphasizing that President Tinubu remains focused on governance and structural reforms rather than the noise of political naysayers.
“Structural reforms are never painless, but nations that avoid them stagnate. Those that embrace them progress,” Oladejo said.
He used the statement to urge Nigerians to reject cynicism, resist despair, and recommit to nation-building. “Politics must never override patriotism. Opposition must never mutate into sabotage,” he added.
The statement comes as the APC seeks to shape public perception of the Tinubu administration’s performance in its first year. Analysts say the party is highlighting national resilience and government achievements to counter criticism from opposition parties and civil society organizations.
Since assuming office in May 2023, President Bola Tinubu has faced criticism from opposition parties over economic challenges, rising insecurity, and alleged governance gaps. Many opposition figures and political commentators had predicted that Nigeria could face crises, ranging from social unrest to economic collapse, during his tenure.
The Lagos APC’s Christmas statement appears to be a response to these predictions, framing the first two years of the Tinubu administration as a period in which the country “defied expectations” despite pressures.
In addition to economic and security concerns, the Tinubu administration has pursued a series of reforms, including fiscal adjustments, public service restructuring, and investments in digital technology and energy. While some of these reforms have sparked debate, the APC argues that they demonstrate a focus on long-term progress.
The opposition has often used these challenges to forecast doom, warning of social unrest, loss of investor confidence, and potential foreign intervention. The Lagos APC statement dismisses these predictions, emphasizing that Nigeria remains stable and resilient.
Seye Oladejo’s statement also stresses the importance of unity and collective responsibility, urging Nigerians to look beyond political divides and support the country’s growth. The APC’s message to citizens is clear: the country can withstand pressures and emerge stronger, regardless of partisan alarmism.
For Nigerians, the statement comes at a time when many are reflecting on the past year and anticipating developments in 2026. The APC emphasizes gratitude, faith, and unity as central themes of the festive season, while also framing national endurance as a shared achievement.
As part of its message, the Lagos APC encourages Nigerians to gather with family and loved ones, enjoy the holiday season, and renew commitment to nation-building. Oladejo says that these steps are crucial to resisting despair and promoting a forward-looking national mindset.
“May this season renew our collective hope, strengthen our unity, and remind us that no prophecy of doom fashioned against this nation shall stand,” he concluded.
The Lagos State chapter of the APC has positioned the 2025 Christmas statement as a symbolic declaration that Nigeria, despite pressures and challenges, continues to move forward under the Tinubu administration. It frames the country’s endurance as evidence that partisan predictions of collapse were exaggerated and politically motivated.
