The Lagos State Police Command has ordered an investigation into the senior pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, following a wave of sexual misconduct allegations circulating widely on social media. The allegations, some of which span nearly a decade, have drawn national attention and public outrage.
The directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to invite Okafor for questioning. The order also includes summoning alleged victims and witnesses for interviews to provide information that would assist the investigation.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no one has formally come forward to report,” said Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi. “Witnesses will also be brought forward to provide statements that will assist the investigation.”
The investigation follows emotional claims made on social media by several women, including Nigerian actress Doris Ogala, who publicly accused Okafor of sexual misconduct spanning nine years. In Instagram videos posted on December 14, 2025, Ogala alleged that her relationship with Okafor began in 2017, included broken promises of marriage, and involved the sharing of explicit images. She also claimed that the relationship contributed to the breakdown of her previous marriage.
These revelations have sparked widespread debate online, with many calling for justice and a formal inquiry into the pastor’s conduct. Social media platforms have seen thousands of comments supporting the alleged victims, while others have debated the influence of power dynamics within religious institutions.
While many of his followers see him as a spiritual guide, the current allegations have raised questions about accountability and transparency in religious institutions. Sexual misconduct claims against high-profile religious leaders are not uncommon in Nigeria, and they often trigger public debate about the power and responsibility of spiritual leaders.
The Lagos State Police Command’s swift action reflects a growing commitment to addressing sexual misconduct allegations, even when no formal complaint has been filed. By directing SCID to investigate, the police are signaling that social media evidence and public testimonies can initiate formal inquiries into potential criminal activities.
The SCID at Panti is responsible for handling serious criminal cases, including sexual offenses. Its mandate includes gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and ensuring that investigations are conducted fairly and transparently. In this case, SCID investigators will be tasked with corroborating the allegations and determining whether any criminal charges are warranted against Pastor Okafor.
The allegations against Okafor have sparked intense discussion online. Hashtags calling for accountability and justice trended on Twitter and Instagram, with thousands of users sharing their opinions and experiences. Many social media users emphasized the need for religious leaders to uphold moral standards, while others cautioned against rushing to judgment before investigations are completed.
Actress Doris Ogala’s statements have been particularly influential in drawing attention to the case. In her videos, she detailed a long-term relationship with Okafor, describing emotional manipulation, broken promises, and the misuse of trust. Her account has encouraged other women to come forward with similar experiences, adding momentum to the investigation.
The case also raises broader questions about the accountability of religious leaders and the protection of congregants. In Nigeria, religious institutions often hold significant social and moral influence, and allegations against leaders can have widespread impact on communities.
Advocates for victims’ rights have called for stricter regulations and mechanisms to address misconduct in churches and mosques. They argue that formal investigations, public awareness campaigns, and protective laws are essential to prevent abuse and ensure that victims feel safe reporting offenses.
SCID investigators are expected to summon Pastor Okafor to answer questions regarding the allegations. Witnesses identified by the police will also be called to provide statements. If sufficient evidence is found, the case could lead to formal charges and prosecution under Nigerian criminal law.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the investigation will be handled professionally and without bias. “Our duty is to investigate thoroughly and ensure that justice is served,” said Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi. “All parties involved will have the opportunity to provide their side of the story.”
