‘I Will Not Be Bullied’ — Seyi Tinubu Denies Allegations in Social Media Row

    Share

Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has broken his silence over allegations linking him to an online dispute involving controversial activist VeryDarkMan and content creator King Mitchy.

In a series of posts shared on his Instagram page, Seyi Tinubu described the claims circulating online as false and misleading. He said he would not allow himself to be bullied or dragged into a quarrel he did not start.

The controversy began after King Mitchy reportedly renovated a public school within six days. The project, which drew praise on social media, was said to have received financial backing from Seyi Tinubu. However, Mitchy later became involved in an online exchange with VeryDarkMan over allegations concerning the handling of public donations received since 2025.

As the argument grew, VeryDarkMan accused Seyi Tinubu of sponsoring Mitchy’s charity work and suggested there was more to their relationship. In a video posted on his Instagram page, the activist also called on members of the public to hold both Seyi Tinubu and Mitchy responsible if anything happened to him.

Reacting to the claims, Seyi Tinubu said his only interaction with King Mitchy was in a public setting. According to him, he met her once alongside other people and decided to support her non-governmental organisation as part of his youth empowerment efforts.

“Over the past few days, my name has been deliberately drawn into an online dispute between VeryDarkMan (VDM) and King_Mitchy (‘Mitchy’),” he wrote.

“Let me be clear: the allegations and insinuations made about me are false.”

He explained that there was no private meeting, secret arrangement, or improper relationship between him and the content creator. He added that after making the donation, a follow-up meeting was planned so he could receive updates on how the funds were used. However, that meeting did not take place because he was ill at the time.

“There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind,” he stated.

Seyi Tinubu expressed concern that a feud he neither started nor took part in was being used to damage his name. He alleged that VeryDarkMan appeared to be looking for an opportunity to attack him and used the situation to draw public attention.

“If my name generates attention, let us at least deal in facts. Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal. Repeating falsehoods loudly does not transform them into truth,” he said.

He further warned against online bullying and harassment, noting that social media attacks can have serious effects on mental health.

“I will not be bullied, and I will not dignify fiction with panic,” he wrote. “No disagreement should descend into harassment that risks someone’s wellbeing or safety.”

The dispute highlights the growing role of social media in shaping public opinion in Nigeria. Platforms like Instagram, X, and Facebook have become major spaces where activists, influencers, and public figures engage in debates and sometimes heated arguments.

VeryDarkMan is known for his outspoken videos, often calling out celebrities and public officials. His supporters say he promotes accountability and transparency. Critics, however, argue that some of his methods can be confrontational and controversial.

King Mitchy, on the other hand, has built a following through lifestyle and charity content. Her recent school renovation project attracted praise from many Nigerians who commended the quick turnaround and support for education.

Education remains a major concern in Nigeria. Many public schools face challenges such as poor infrastructure, lack of furniture, and overcrowded classrooms. Private donations and charity projects often help to improve learning conditions, especially in underserved communities.

Seyi Tinubu said his involvement in such projects is not new. According to him, he has spent over a decade supporting initiatives in education, healthcare, enterprise, and youth development through his foundation and personal donations.

“Philanthropy and outreach must never be politicised or weaponised,” he wrote. “Nigeria needs builders, not bullies. We need responsible discourse, not sensationalism driven by speculation.”

As the son of the President, Seyi Tinubu has often been in the public eye. Public figures and their families frequently face scrutiny, especially in a country where political issues generate strong opinions. Analysts say this makes it even more important for public conversations to be based on facts.

In recent years, online disputes involving influencers and activists have sometimes led to legal actions, arrests, or public apologies. Social media has become both a tool for accountability and a source of controversy.

Seyi Tinubu called for de-escalation and restraint, urging those involved to return to what he described as truth and responsibility.

“Noise will fade. Character and work endure. I remain committed to serving Nigerians, especially our youth, with integrity and transparency,” he concluded.

As the online debate continues, many Nigerians are watching closely. Some are calling for clear evidence to support any claims made, while others urge all parties to focus on constructive dialogue.

For now, Seyi Tinubu has firmly denied the allegations and insists that his support for charitable causes should not be turned into a scandal. Whether the dispute will calm down or escalate further remains to be seen, but it has once again shown the powerful impact of social media on public life in Nigeria.
