The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 10 individuals suspected of engaging in unlawful mining operations in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The arrests were carried out by operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.
A statement issued by the EFCC on X.com, Tuesday, says the individuals were intercepted with six trucks, all fully loaded with lithium, a valuable mineral.
The names of the suspects are Yunusa Adisa, Ganiyu Kazeem, Muideen Babayemi, Sulaiman Usman, Adeleke Waliu, Tiamiyu Rokeeb, Olusola Sunday, Oyedokun Oluwagbemiga, Sulaimon Ishiaq, and Olufimihan Eniola.
The EFCC’s action was prompted by credible intelligence reports indicating the suspects’ involvement in the illegal extraction of solid minerals, particularly lithium, which was being transported to undisclosed locations
