Tension has gripped Odo-Ore community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of five residents by suspected gunmen.

The attackers, said to be about ten in number, stormed the quiet community late at night, firing shots into the air and causing panic among residents before carrying out the operation.

Eyewitnesses said the incident happened around 11 p.m., when most residents had retired to their homes. The sound of gunfire forced many people to flee or hide for safety as the gunmen moved freely within the area.

Among those abducted was Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa, a well-known figure in the community. He is described as a prominent politician and the owner of a private school in the area.

Sources said the gunmen went straight to his residence, suggesting that the operation may have been planned in advance.

According to a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, the attackers appeared to have clear information about their target.

“The attack on Alhaji Yusuf can be attributed to informants,” the source said. “They went straight to his house as if they already knew where he lived and what they wanted.”

The resident explained that Yunusa was preparing to go to bed when the gunmen arrived.

“They forced their way through his gate, broke the main door, and took him away at gunpoint,” she said.

While leaving the community, the gunmen reportedly abducted four other residents. Details about the identities of these victims were still unclear at the time of filing this report.

Residents said the attackers moved quickly and faced no resistance during the operation.

Many in the community have expressed shock over the ease with which the gunmen carried out the attack.

One of the major concerns raised by residents is the absence of any security presence in Odo-Ore.

According to locals, there is no police station or any visible security outfit in the community. This, they say, left them completely exposed to the attackers.

“There was nobody to call for help,” another resident said. “We were on our own. The gunmen came, did what they wanted, and left without any challenge.”

The situation has raised fresh concerns about the safety of rural communities, especially those far from major towns and security infrastructure.

Kidnapping and armed attacks have become a growing concern in several parts of Nigeria, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

Criminal groups often target such communities because of limited security presence and slower response times from law enforcement agencies.

In many cases, victims are abducted for ransom, with families forced to negotiate for their release.

Following the latest incident, residents of Odo-Ore are calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to protect them.

Some have demanded the establishment of a police station or security post in the area, while others are asking for regular patrols by security forces.

“We cannot continue to live like this,” a community member said. “We need protection. We need security in this town.”

There are also concerns about the possible role of informants, as suggested by residents. If confirmed, this could mean that the attackers had local support or information that made the operation easier.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command had not issued any official statement regarding the incident.

The silence from the police has added to the anxiety among residents, who are eager for reassurance and action.

Since the attack, fear has spread across Odo-Ore, with many residents worried about possible repeat incidents.

Some families have reportedly begun making plans to relocate temporarily, while others are taking extra precautions at night.

Community leaders are said to be holding meetings to discuss ways to improve local security, including forming vigilante groups.

However, many believe that without support from official security agencies, such efforts may not be enough.

The abduction in Odo-Ore highlights the ongoing security challenges facing many communities in Nigeria.

As authorities work to address insecurity across the country, incidents like this show the urgent need for stronger presence in rural areas.

For the affected families, the focus now is on the safe return of the victims.
