Controversial Nigerian street-pop singer, Portable, has escaped unhurt after being involved in a minor road accident caused by brake failure in Ogun State.

The singer, known for his energetic music style and frequent social media controversies, shared videos of the incident on his Instagram story on Thursday night, thanking God for sparing his life.

According to Portable, the accident happened while he was driving within his neighbourhood in Ogun State. He explained that his vehicle suddenly lost brake control, forcing him to take a quick decision to avoid crashing into another vehicle on the road.

In one of the videos, the singer said he deliberately drove into a roadside ditch to stop the vehicle and prevent a more serious accident.

“My fans, thank God on my behalf. This is my usual route. All of a sudden, I lost control of the wheel,” he said.

Portable further explained that he pressed the brake several times, but the vehicle failed to respond.

“I pressed the brake, but it did not respond. I do not want to die. Ogun saved me. Nothing happened to me. My car is not damaged. Let the government come and complete this road,” he added.

The singer appeared visibly shaken in the videos but repeatedly thanked God for surviving the incident without injuries.

He also said he was fortunate that no heavy-duty truck or trailer was passing on the road at the time the brake failed.

“Nothing do me oo, I came out unhurt. I suddenly realised that the car had failed brake. I thank God my people did not come here to carry my corpse,” he said.

Portable revealed that the accident happened barely one day before the naming ceremony of his newborn son.

According to him, preparations for the ceremony had already been completed before the incident occurred.

“I’ve already bought two cows for my son’s naming ceremony. Thank God that the accident didn’t happen when the trailer was passing on the road,” he stated.

The naming ceremony is for his newborn son, Fijabi, whom he welcomed with his wife, Bewaji.

The birth of the child was announced earlier this month during Portable’s celebrity boxing match with Nigerian comedian and content creator, Carter Efe, held on May 1.

The singer had recently generated attention online after distributing free Ankara aso ebi materials ahead of the child’s naming ceremony.

Videos and photos from the preparations circulated widely on social media, with fans and supporters reacting to the singer’s unusual style of celebration.

Portable remains one of Nigeria’s most talked-about entertainers, especially on social media, where his lifestyle, outspoken behaviour and public controversies often attract attention.

He became famous in 2021 after the release of his hit song “Zazoo Zehh,” which featured popular Nigerian artistes and quickly became a street anthem across the country.

Since then, the singer has remained in the spotlight, not only because of his music but also due to repeated controversies involving fellow entertainers, police authorities and online critics.

Despite the controversies, Portable has built a strong fan base among young Nigerians who admire his street style and energetic personality.

The latest accident has once again drawn reactions from fans online, many of whom expressed relief that the singer survived unharmed.

Some supporters described the incident as a “miracle escape,” especially because brake failure has been responsible for many fatal road accidents in Nigeria.

Road accidents linked to brake failure remain common on Nigerian roads, particularly involving poorly maintained vehicles and bad road conditions.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has often warned motorists to regularly inspect their vehicles, especially braking systems, before driving.

Safety officials also advise drivers to avoid speeding and to carry out regular maintenance to reduce the risk of mechanical failure.

In many parts of Ogun State and other states across Nigeria, residents have continued to complain about bad roads, potholes and incomplete road projects, which they say contribute to accidents and damage to vehicles.

Portable also used the opportunity to call on the government to fix the road where the incident happened.

Residents in some parts of Ogun State have repeatedly raised concerns over poor road infrastructure, especially in rapidly growing communities.

Although the singer said his vehicle was not badly damaged, the incident has again highlighted the dangers many motorists face daily on Nigerian roads.

Social media users flooded Portable’s comment sections with prayers and congratulatory messages following his survival.

Others also congratulated him ahead of his son’s naming ceremony, which is expected to attract friends, family members and fans.

The singer’s ability to quickly turn the steering into a ditch instead of colliding with another vehicle may have prevented what could have become a major tragedy.

For now, Portable appears grateful for escaping unharmed and remaining alive to celebrate the arrival of his newborn child.

The singer ended his videos by thanking God repeatedly and appreciating fans for their concern following the incident.
