Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has relieved all his advisers and several top political aides of their appointments in what the government described as a minor cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening his administration.
Among those affected are all Special Advisers, Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mashood Agboola.
According to the statement, the shake-up is intended to create opportunities for more members of the ruling party to serve in government while injecting fresh ideas and renewed energy into the administration.
“Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved a minor cabinet shake-up involving all Special Advisers, Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Assistants,” the statement said.
It added that the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor were also affected by the decision.
The government explained that the changes form part of ongoing efforts to reposition the administration for improved service delivery as it enters another phase of governance.
Although the statement did not announce immediate replacements for the affected officials, it indicated that the exercise was designed to widen participation within the party and bring new perspectives into government.
“The decision is meant to extend opportunities to more party members and inject fresh energy into the administration,” the statement noted.
Governor AbdulRazaq thanked the outgoing appointees for their contributions to the development of Kwara State during their time in office.
He described their service as valuable and appreciated their commitment to the programmes and policies of his administration.
The governor also wished them success in their future endeavours.
“The Governor expressed his gratitude to all the appointees for their priceless service to the state and wished them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement added.
As part of the transition process, the governor directed all affected officials to hand over government property in their possession to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The directive is expected to ensure a smooth transfer of responsibilities ahead of the appointment of new aides.
Such changes also provide opportunities to reward loyal party members, broaden political inclusion and strengthen the implementation of government programmes.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who is serving his second term in office, has carried out changes in his administration at different times since assuming office in 2019.
His government has focused on infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, urban renewal and efforts to improve the state’s internally generated revenue.
The administration has also undertaken projects in road construction, school rehabilitation, hospital upgrades and social intervention programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
Like many state governments, the Kwara administration has faced growing public expectations amid economic challenges, including rising inflation, higher living costs and increasing demands for improved public services.
The latest reshuffle comes as political activities gradually begin to gather momentum ahead of future elections, with many parties expected to reposition their structures and accommodate more stakeholders.
Although the government described the exercise as minor, the removal of virtually all political advisers and senior aides represents one of the most significant changes to Governor AbdulRazaq’s support team in recent months.
The administration has not indicated when new appointments will be announced, but political observers expect replacements to be named after consultations within the ruling party and the state government.
For now, the outgoing officials are expected to complete the handover process in line with the governor’s directive while government activities continue under the supervision of permanent officials and other members of the executive council.
