Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticised the All Progressives Congress, APC, over what he described as attempts to stop the progress recorded by the Osun State Government under his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Davido made the remarks on Monday while reacting to the large crowd that attended the inauguration of the Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife by the governor.
The singer, who has openly supported Adeleke and his administration, shared videos from the event on his X account and praised the turnout.
Reacting to a video showing the crowd at the inauguration, Davido wrote, “Jesus, see Ile-Ife crowd!! For @AAdeleke_01!!! Done deal! You can’t stop God’s project!!”
In another post, the singer directly criticised the APC, questioning why the opposition party would allegedly oppose development projects in the state.
“APC is just backward. Why would they be doing anything to stop progress? Thought y’all were progressives??” he wrote.
Davido also mocked what he described as efforts to mobilise influencers and supporters for political events.
He wrote, “Belt to ass this weekend!!!! If you like, pay 100,000 influencers nah. Free hotel and food, dem come for.”
The posts quickly drew attention on social media, coming at a time of heightened political activities in Osun State ahead of the governorship election.
Adeleke is seeking re-election in the election, with the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, among those challenging him.
Davido has been one of Adeleke’s most vocal supporters and has repeatedly used his large social media following to defend the governor and promote his administration.
His latest comments therefore add to the political exchanges between supporters of the ruling party in the state and the opposition as the election approaches.
The singer’s support for his uncle is not new. Davido has consistently backed Adeleke since the governor became active in politics and has often highlighted projects and achievements associated with his administration.
The inauguration of the Lagere Flyover provided another opportunity for him to express his support.
The flyover is located at Lagere Junction, one of the busiest areas in Ile-Ife.
The area serves as an important commercial and transport centre, with traffic moving between different parts of the ancient city.
The project was flagged off by Adeleke in May 2024 as part of his administration’s effort to improve road infrastructure and reduce traffic congestion in major parts of Osun State.
The project includes the flyover and associated road expansion and dualisation works along the Mayfair Roundabout–Palace Junction corridor.
The wider road project is expected to improve movement between the Lagere area, Iremo Road and the axis leading towards the palace of the Ooni of Ife.
The project has been reported to cost about N14.9 billion.
The inauguration attracted residents, political supporters, traditional stakeholders and other members of the public.
Videos from the event showed a large crowd gathered around the project site as the governor formally commissioned the infrastructure.
For the Adeleke administration, the project is part of a wider programme aimed at improving roads and other infrastructure across Osun State.
The government has placed considerable emphasis on road construction, rehabilitation and dualisation as part of its development programme.
The importance of the Lagere project is linked to the area’s role as a major entry and movement point in Ile-Ife.
Traffic congestion has remained a concern around busy junctions in major Nigerian cities, particularly where commercial activities and heavy movement of vehicles meet.
Flyovers and road expansion projects are often introduced by state governments as measures to improve traffic flow and reduce delays.
The completion of the Lagere project is therefore expected to provide easier movement for motorists and other road users in the area.
However, the project has also become part of the political debate in Osun State, with supporters of the administration presenting it as evidence of the government’s achievements.
