Former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, has revealed that Napoli star striker, Victor Osimhen, has yet to apologize for a controversial outburst on social media directed at him.
Finidi, who currently manages Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Rivers United, said he made efforts to resolve the issue but has received no response from Osimhen.
The incident, which occurred during Finidi’s tenure as Super Eagles coach, has resurfaced in light of ongoing discussions about team unity and discipline.
In an interview with Nigeria Info FM, Finidi shared his thoughts on the situation and provided insight into his relationship with the Napoli forward.
Osimhen’s outburst on Instagram came at a time when the Super Eagles were struggling during their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
After a disappointing draw against South Africa and a surprising loss to the Benin Republic, Osimhen took to social media to criticize Finidi George.
In a 10-minute tirade, Osimhen accused the former coach of making him a “scapegoat” for the team’s poor performance.
The outburst shocked many fans, as Osimhen, a rising star in European football, has generally been regarded as one of Nigeria’s top talents and a key player for the national team.
Finidi, reflecting on the situation, said Osimhen acted hastily based on misinformation.
“I sent him a message that it was not the best way, just someone telling you that coach said that, and you’re talking about me like I said it in an interview,” Finidi explained.
Despite reaching out to Osimhen, the former Super Eagles coach said he never received a response.
“From that point, I didn’t hear from him,” Finidi revealed. “I moved on and I wish everybody well, only God will judge.”
When asked if Osimhen should be sanctioned or banned from the Super Eagles, Finidi took a calm and diplomatic stance.
“I don’t know, he is there already, let him be,” he responded, suggesting that he had no intention of holding a grudge against the player.
Finidi acknowledged that Osimhen had made a mistake but emphasized the importance of moving on.
“We cannot crucify him,” he said. “He has made a mistake, we have moved on, and life goes on.”
Finidi’s response highlights his mature approach to handling the incident. Rather than escalating the situation, he has chosen to leave the matter in the past and focus on his current responsibilities with Rivers United.
Former Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, recently commented on the importance of unity within the national team, urging players to keep personal disputes aside for the greater good of Nigerian football.
“We’ve all had disagreements with coaches, but it’s important to focus on the team and
