A shocking incident unfolded in Lagos on Monday when a commercial sex worker, identified as Joy Kelvin, was arrested by the Lagos State Police for allegedly stabbing a 48-year-old man, Felix Okafor, to death. The tragic event occurred in Okafor’s apartment at Jakande Housing Estate in the upscale Lekki area of Lagos.
The incident, which took place in the early hours of Monday at around 5:32 a.m., has sent shockwaves through the community. According to police reports, Joy Kelvin allegedly attacked Okafor while they were together in his home, leading to fatal injuries.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement released to the press. He detailed the tragic sequence of events that led to the man’s death and how the authorities are working to uncover the full circumstances of the incident.
Stabbed During Time Together
Hundeyin revealed that the suspect, Joy Kelvin, had been spending time with Okafor overnight before the situation escalated into violence. According to him, it is still unclear what led to the fatal stabbing, but he assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing.
He said, “The suspect, identified as Joy Kelvin, allegedly stabbed Okafor during their time together overnight.”
Shortly after the attack, Okafor was rushed to the General Hospital in Marina, Lagos, but it was too late. Doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival. The swift response of medical personnel, however, could not save the victim’s life, as the injuries sustained during the stabbing proved to be fatal.
Prompt Response by Authorities
Following a report of the incident, officers from the Ilasan Division of the Lagos State Police were quickly dispatched to the scene. They arrived at the Jakande Housing Estate apartment at around 7:20 a.m. to begin their investigation.
Hundeyin noted that detectives wasted no time in conducting initial inquiries and securing evidence. “Upon receiving the report, detectives from Ilasan Division promptly arrived at the crime scene, took photographs, and conducted initial investigations,” he said.
The police spokesperson added that the deceased’s body has been transported to the morgue at the General Hospital in Yaba, where it will be preserved pending an autopsy. “The body of the deceased has been evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital Morgue in Yaba for preservation and autopsy,” Hundeyin explained.
Suspect in Custody, Investigation Ongoing
Joy Kelvin has since been taken into police custody and is currently being held at the Ilasan Police Station while investigators work to determine the motive behind the crime. Hundeyin stressed that efforts are also being made to notify the family members of the deceased about the tragic incident.
“The suspect, Joy Kelvin, has since been taken into police custody, and efforts are underway to notify the deceased’s family members,” Hundeyin stated.
He assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is in progress to piece together the exact events that led to the fatal stabbing. “A thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event,” he added.
