Former Niger Delta militant leader Asari Dokubo has publicly declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dokubo claims that Tinubu once saved him from the wrath of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He shared this during an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show.

Dokubo’s relationship with Tinubu dates back to the military era.

“I supported Mr. President because I knew him before he became senator,” Dokubo stated.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, saying, “God willing, I will also know him when he ceases to be president.”

However, Dokubo emphasized that his support is not just personal.

“It’s about my people,” he said.

He described his relationship with Tinubu as “robust,” indicating that he has always benefited from it.

“The benefit I derived from that relationship was one-way traffic, which was from Tinubu alone,” he explained.

Dokubo highlighted that Tinubu’s presidential bid was his opportunity to give back.

“His coming out for the presidency was the only time I was able to pay him back, and I did,” he said.

He firmly stated, “If he comes out tomorrow, I will still do it.”

Dokubo recalled a critical moment when he felt abandoned by the government.

“At the time, Obasanjo buried me alive, but he stood by me,” he said.

He emphasized that he would never forget that support.

However, his loyalty to Tinubu does not come without criticism.

In the same interview, Dokubo expressed disappointment with Tinubu’s support for Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.

He accused Wike of trying to destabilize Rivers State, where Dokubo is a stakeholder.

“Tinubu is supporting Wike to destabilize Rivers State,” he alleged.

According to Dokubo, Wike’s actions are threatening the peace of the state.

He feels that Wike is trying to remove the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

“And nothing will happen,” he claimed, referring to the possible consequences of such a move.

Dokubo expressed frustration over what he perceives as a lack of action from Tinubu.

“I feel disappointed, totally disappointed for the president to allow his minister to run amok,” he said.

He emphasized that his concerns are not driven by personal interests.

“I’m not talking of any personal benefit,” he insisted.

Dokubo made it clear that he has no desire for a ministerial appointment.

“I cannot be appointed minister,” he stated firmly.

Wike has been a controversial figure in Nigerian politics, known for his strong opinions and decisive actions.

Dokubo’s remarks reflect the dissatisfaction among some stakeholders in Rivers regarding Wike’s influence.

The political landscape in Rivers State is complex, with various factions vying for power.

Dokubo’s support for Tinubu indicates a desire for stability and effective governance.

His history with Tinubu adds a personal dimension to his political commentary.

Asari Dokubo gained notoriety as a militant leader in the Niger Delta during the height of unrest in the region.
