The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a critical alert regarding a widely used cosmetic product.

The warning concerns the Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-On deodorant, which has been recalled in Europe due to significant safety concerns.

This deodorant, known for its “48H Protection in African Climate,” is specifically marked with batch number 93529610.

NAFDAC reports that this recall follows a notice from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX) authorities.

The recall highlights serious health risks linked to the product.

NAFDAC revealed that the deodorant contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl propionaldehyde (BMHCA).

This chemical is banned in cosmetics due to its harmful effects.

Experts warn that BMHCA can cause reproductive harm and may impair the health of unborn children.

Additionally, this chemical can lead to skin irritation and burns in users.

NAFDAC emphasizes the urgent need for caution among all stakeholders.

The agency urges importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to remain vigilant throughout the supply chain.

“Discontinue the sale or use of the affected Nivea Roll-On,” NAFDAC stated.

The agency recommends that anyone in possession of the affected product return it to the nearest NAFDAC office immediately.

“Members of the public in possession of the affected batch of product should discontinue the sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office,” the agency added.

This incident raises concerns about product safety regulations in Nigeria.
